YOUrope Needs YOU! in Canakkale

YOUrope Needs YOU! had its last event for the 2008-2009 season in Canakkale, Turkey between 25-30 March. 20 participants, 5 trainers and the local organizers spend 5 nice days together, with sessions in the days, and social programme in the evenings. Having sessions from High School Students, to Knowledge about EU, and from Presentation Skills to Learning styles, the participants have learned many aspects and gained many skills for their aim in this training, teaching high school students the topics about European Citizenship. With the manager, Tomasz Szreder and 4 other trainers, working for 6 days with 20 participants, the event ended up in a big success, with many motivated participants, skilled and willing to work with high school students in their hometowns. YOUrope Needs YOU! team, Tomasz, the trainers, and of course, AEGEE-Canakkale deserves a big applause for this wonderful training.

Why Network Meeting Wien was so cool

It's been a week, but it should still be noted that the Network Meeting in Vienna was awesome. It were the smaller things that made it so. Having 24 hours between deciding to go and arriving. The bank swallowing my bankcard and me being without money. Great enthusiasm and hospitality of AEGEE-Wien. A really big amount of new AEGEE members - out of 70 people present I knew maybe 7. Beautiful city. Great workshops. Funky Flaming Mozarts.

carrying a suitcase and a frowned face from rainy Brussels, be picked up at the train station in scooter (!) and have the most magnificent city tour in sunny, enchanting Barcelona.
Further destination: Mora la Nova, on the Ebro river, where a fabulous Network Meeting takes place.

The cooperation and connection among Spanish and Portuguese antennae is just amazing. The work of the NetCom simply vital.
Virginia and her great team of SubCommies support a true, strong network of friends which is now producing some pretty incredible results.
All right, everybody speaks Spanish in here, and so? Plus, we are realy tryin to espeak Inglis!

That’s not all folks, no no no…
Guillermo has been dreaming about creating AEGEE in his city for a long time and recently got university support. Somehow we managed to speed up the whole process, and 9 days later AEGEE-Bilbao was signing at the NWM itself!
Not only, but the people who came from Andalusia got even more motivated and want to go for it, right now! With Alicia from Malaga we finished the statutes and polished all the documents on the spot. AGORA Magusa will see their birth, we hope (dear Chair, we appeal to you, don’t break our dreams!). Santi from Granada, to a general surprise, announced they want to go for it as well – university support is on its way.
…que emoción!

To give you an idea how well are we working here: those antennae are integrated in the network even before becoming part of it. Wasn’t it supposed to be the other way round? ;-)

There has been a touching farewell of the past NetCom team and an impressive presentation of the new team, already working very hard.

Italian network would benefit from a similar structure. While taking mental notes for NWM Bari, to take place on 22-24 May, I enjoyed extremely professional and creative workshops and craziest parties.

Human contact is very easy to lose sitting behind a screen. My gratitude to you, amazing people, for your warmth, for your espanish escandals, for making me feel the AEGEE spirit in its very essence.

After 3 amazing days, Where Does Europe End team is back to their homes, with full of motivation, ideas and inspiration.

Y Vote Trieste on Enlargement

It was a peculiar Y Vote event, with no politicians this time. Location: Trieste, for its border position, the perfect place to talk about EU enlargement.
4 were the countries taken into exam: Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. We had Croats, Serbians, Slovenes, Bosnians, - including Bosnian Muslims, Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs – but also Slovenian minority from Italy and Italian minority from Croatia represented.

Thanks to prof. Pilotto, there were also Political Science students both from Trieste and Gorizia taking part in the event. The interchange between the youngsters worked marvellously. The speakers were pleased and amazed by the interest of the Italian students, for whom it was a precious opportunity to get in touch with the issue in such a direct way.
The ex-Yugoslavian speakers (mostly AEGEE members experts about the topic) prepared their presentations wonderfully, giving an exhaustive and personal insight of the situation in their countries, with focus on the issues connected with EU enlargement. The debate and the workshops which followed were rich and productive. It was an amazing learning experience for everybody, with no exception.

Led by Veronika Braun of the Y vote team, we could not miss crazy street actions! Many Triestinians, now proud Y Vote balloon or bracelet-carriers, were informed about EU parliament elections and convinced to vote.

The beauties of Trieste, the sea and the sunshine made the weekend even more special.
The event included a very typical evening featuring special guest Tiziano Bole with his guitar. Balkan songs, quite predictably, were often overtaking the scene to Italian and English ones.

Of course, everybody wants to join AEGEE now! :)

It was also a network development occasion: with Amel from Bosnia, with whom I was already in touch before, we had now more concrete talks about founding AEGEE-Mostar, and even the idea of an AEGEE-Tuzla came out with Merima.

What a pleasure attending such an event… Although an organizer, I feel restored!

Network Meeting Kyiv

Lucky me, I could go as CD representative to Kyiv for the Network Meeting! This beautiful city in a for me fairly undiscovered part of the AEGEE network proved to be a true inspiration and energiser. Thanks to the hospitality of Katya and her family I was able to visit the city and integrate a bit into local culture the day before.



















The Network Meeting was attended by many young as well as more experienced members from St Petersburg, Moskva, Lviv, Chisinau, Dnipropetrovsk, Lutsk, Odessa, Katowice and of course Kyiv as well as some more far away visitors from Barcelona, Eindhoven and Hamburg. Besides a video conference with twin atenna Valetta which also had a Network Meeting going on, and workshops on Fund Raising, Youth in Action, PR, Visibility; it was an excellent moment to discuss the upcoming Agora in Kyiv and mobilise the entire region for support :)





















Big thanks goes to all the WONDERFUL people from AEGEE Kyiv for their great hospitality, and Lukasz, Sveta, Kuba, and the other trainers for the programme!

Where Does Europe End team meeting

It is only one day left till Where Does Europe End team, the members of the new project initative of AEGEE, is coming to Brussels between 12-15 March, to have their first team meeting.

In this three days, a busy program awaits the team, in which they will work on their project outline, team dynamics, thematics and of course their future plans.

Having already submitted an application for a kick off conference on September in Hungary, Where Does Europe End team will shape their present and future plans in this meeting in Brussels.

Summer University Booklets sent

Dear network,

Rest assured that your Summer University booklets and posters, the main tools to promote your own Summer University and send your members to other SU's, are on their way, finally sent after a long days work of carrying stuff, packing, wrapping and taping by Percin, Evren, Romain, Martien, and of course, AEGEE-Delft members ( San, Marco, Gerard, Carsten and Joyce from AEGEE-Leiden.

Starting the journey at 10.00 am, the packing team took their car and headed towards Delft, with all their necessary equipment ( sandwiches, envelopes, tapes ). Forgotten that they are going to a technical university, they were surprised to enter TU Delft campus, which at the first instance looked like an atellier.

It was a nice, fun and lots of work experience in which the packing team promoted a new arising word ' Zwaffeln ' in AEGEE-Delft office.

Then AEGEE-Delft members were kind enough to take CD packing team out for a drink and show them Delft, a small and beautiful city in the Netherlands.

After having a successful mailing day, packing team came back to Brussels around 23.00 with full exhausment and satisfaction.

European Parliament TV Debate

European Youth Forum Stakeholders Meeting

Percin, Tena, Evren and Romain ( our CD intern ) have joined the Stakeholders Meeting that European Youth forum organized, which aims inform stakeholders in the process of Shaping the Youth Policy for the next year under the Czech and Swedish Presidency of the European Youth Council.

There were the Secretary General of YFJ, Chair of Youth Working Party of the Czech Presidency of the EU, Policy Officer of European Commission, Swedish representative for the EU, and youth leaders from various national councils.

The conference started with the speech of Pavel Trantina about the Council's Preparations of a revised frameework of cooperation, followed by the European Youth Forum's Shadow Report on the framework of European cooperation in the youth field.

Then Jorgen Hansen talked about the commission's evaluation in the current framework in the youth field and the preparation of a revised framework.

The conference followed by a round table debate, Tena mentioned the ways of searching for and recognition of volutary work as precious experience since 2010 is year of employment and poverty and 2011 will be the year of volunteering.

Percin mentioned his vision and ideal in way of achieving visibility of the results gathered for shaping the new policy and stressed that the best way to implement these results is to work with youth leaders and youth organizations.

In the end, it was agreed that the communication is the key factor for implementing the new framework for the youth policy, which will focus on Youth Employment.

SCANdanivia Advance Planning Visit

Between 19-22 February; Katrin, Miguel, Dragana and Percin were in Kopenhagen, for preparing the content and logistics of SCANdinavia event, a case study about sustainable lifestlyes, that will take place in Kopenhagen between 30 March- 5 April.

The first day, Miguel and Percin managed to get a nice conference hall and a nice hostel for the event. After this great success, they managed to gamble in the center of Kopenhagen, and lose considerable amount of money.

The second day, after Katrin's arrival, they all went to the Library of Kopenhagen, sitting there for 5 hours and shaping the program, the content and the timetable.

The last day, after Miguel's departure, Katrin and Percin went to the EU centre for media attention for the event, and to the City Hall to invite the Lord Mayor to give a speech.

After arranging logistics, content and the programme, now Dragana is following up the communication we established with partners, speakers and places we will be.
